Doc-Here

With respect to presentation skills, my team and I pitched an idea to a group of judges in order to reduce hospital wait time. This was so etching that would be possible with the use of a web app called Doc-Here. Doc-Here is a web app which serves to reduce hospital wait time by prior booking of appointment on the part of the patient.

Context

This was a mock hackathon done during the Novustack Innovate for Africa Fellowship as part of the design-thinking course and process.

The Problem statement

To identify and solve a problem which was hampering on the delivering of adequate health services in Nigeria

The Solution

My team decided to tackle the inefficiencies in the patient visits - long waiting hours, lack of inter-hospital referrals for cases that require such. The strategy for the solutions culminated in Doc-Here, an all-encompassing Hospital Management System.

The design thinking process

Empathize

This is the first stage of the design thinking process and in this stage we had to place ourselves in the user's shoes and to that end we conducted a primary market research. So, I learnt about user centric approach to problems where I had to interview an individual, find out the major problem, without letting my own judgement interfere.

Building a Customer Persona

In a bid to know who our potential customers are, we created a customer persona. We created a fictitious customer from the primary market research conducted in the empathy stage and tried to find the person's behavioural, physical characteristics as well as the potential day to day activity of the customer.

Defining the Problem

We asked specific questions from a list to identify consumers' current problems while getting medical help. We divided our interviews into two focus groups which were the patients and the doctors. Our research focused solely on the consumers' responses and then drew out the problem statement. About 75% of the patients' responses highlighted the long wait time during hospital visits while doctors lamented the overflow of patients.

The prototype

Finally a prototype was formed which had the landing page, the user area which is a separate page for doctors and patients and the admin area. The idea was pitched to the judges who saw it as a great pitch. This pitch increased my presentation skills as well as confidence in speaking with the group.
